Janette Corbin's home at the NW Corner of Ann & West High Streets - c 1890

Picture and comments submitted by Bill Gough - The house that was on the NWcorner of Ann St. and W. High…next to my grandmother's [Ethel (Reed) Corbin] house.  You may recognize it. My guess it was taken in the 1890s.  For a time it belonged to Janette Corbin.

Comment - To view Ethel Corbin's home on West High Street click on http://unioncitypostcards.blogspot.com/2012/09/206-west-high-street.html

1st Lieutenant Henry B. Corbin - c 1862

Picture and comments submitted by Bill Gough - With a lot of focus on the 150th anniversary of Gettysburg and the Civll War these days - attached is a picture of 1st Lieutenant Henry B. Corbin, of Battery D, 1st Michigan Light Artillery, in his Union lieutenant uniform, taken around 1862. Henry was my great-great uncle. He became captain of the Battery in 1864, after Josiah Church was promoted to major. Battery D was mainly comprised of people from Branch County, Michigan, and was a very successful and highly regarded unit, known to some as "Church's Battery".  John C. Corbin, Henry's brother, also served as a soldier in the Battery, but died of typhoid in 1863 in Tennessee.

For anyone who is interested in the history of Michigan's Battery D…I suggest they visit  www.batteryd.com , home page for the active reenactment unit based in Michigan that does battle displays and Civil War reenactments.  I think they are coming to Union City in September.  I sent them this picture of Henry as well.

Barrett's Hardware & Geo. F. Minto Clothing - 1908

This picture is from a series of pictures take at a Jubilee celebration in the downtown area on September 25, 1908.  Possibly a celebration of the opening of the new bridge that replaced one washed away by the flood on March 9, 1908.
