Picture and comments submitted by Bill Gough - With a lot of focus on the 150th anniversary of Gettysburg and the Civll War these
days - attached is a picture of 1st Lieutenant Henry B. Corbin, of Battery D,
1st Michigan Light Artillery, in his Union lieutenant uniform, taken around
1862. Henry was my great-great uncle. He became captain of the Battery in 1864,
after Josiah Church was promoted to major. Battery D was mainly comprised of
people from Branch County, Michigan, and was a very successful and highly
regarded unit, known to some as "Church's Battery".  John C. Corbin, Henry's
brother, also served as a soldier in the Battery, but died of typhoid in 1863 in
Tennessee.
For anyone who is interested in the history of Michigan's Battery D…I
suggest they visit
www.batteryd.com ,
home page for the active reenactment unit based in Michigan that does battle
displays and Civil War reenactments.  I think they are coming to Union City in
September.  I sent them this picture of Henry as well.
